September Stitch Fix

I'm back to school and better start posting more about that. Today I'm home with a sick daughter and she's resting comfortably so I figured I should FINALLY type this up.
I have gotten so many wonderful pieces from Stitch Fix.  They definitely know and "get" me which makes it so much easier to shop.  Fall will be here soon and I can't wait to see what they have for my wardrobe.
More about what Stitch Fix is first!
They pair you with a personal stylist. The stylist chooses 5 items specifically for you. For a $20 styling fee, you are matched with someone who hand picks the items. The items are delivered to your house and you have the comfort of trying them on at home and trying them on with the other items you already own in your closet (clothes, accessories, shoes).  You are not committed to purchasing anything. Shipping is free and you keep the items you want and ship back anything that you don't want. The $20 styling fee is deducted from the items you keep. The returns are free as well. You just put anything you don't want in the mailer they provide and drop it in the mail. It's that simple. If you decide to keep all 5 items, you save 25% off your entire order! It's absolutely amazing and you should definitely try it out.

This months style card-

On to the items!
Item 1
41Hawthorn Filbert Abstract Striped Henley Blouse

Verdict- Love this top, perfect for teaching! Keeper
Item 2
Skies are Blue Cress Lace Inset Top
The color of this is adorable. But, it had no shape to it at all.

Verdict- return

Item 3
Pixley Martina Slub Knit Open Cardigan
I asked for a black or white cardigan. I was pleased to get this. I own it in pink and love it.
This is such a versatile cardigan. I love it.

Here is the one I already own in pink!
Verdict- definitely keeping

Item 4
Margaret M Emer Printed Straight Leg Pants
I have 3 other pairs of Emer Pants. I love them. They are super comfortable and perfect for school!
The design of these are super versatile. They aren't meant to be cropped but they are on me and I still like them.
Close up of design
Verdict- love and probably keeping.

Item 5
41Hawthorn Christina Dress

This dress really missed the mark for me. WAY too short. And I definitely don't do short, in fact, I hate the sun so my legs don't do short either. But for humor here are the pics...
Verdict-
Do I need to say it? Obviously not keeping. 😂 I guess it was was meant for a shorter person.

Loved this fix and can't wait for the next.
Have a great day!

August Stitch Fix

It's pretty ridiculous that I still get so excited to receive a Stitch Fix box. But, I do! It's so much fun!
Here's how it works...

This months style card-

Item 1
Taylor Poe Dress $88
I had been really, really wanting this dress. After all, what's not to like about a dress with pockets?!??!
The fabric was much nicer than I expected it to be.

Verdict- love it and keeping it
Item 2
Skies are Blue Susanne Chevron Print Draped Cardigan $64
Anyone who knows me knows I love chevron. This is a difficult one because it's 107 degrees outside and cardigan isn't in my vocabulary. But, again, I love chevron. Just not sure I like it when it's buttoned. Thoughts?
Verdict- undecided

Item 3
41Hawthorn Beckett V-Neck Blouse $48
and
Item 4
Mavi Ruxin Boyfriend Jean $98
Originally when I saw this top I totally hated. But, when I tried it on, I actually liked it. And I LOVE these jeans. They are so comfortable!!! Pics of jeans on the next item too!

Verdict- keeping jeans for SURE, undecided in top
Item 5
Collective Concepts Cynthia Graphic Print Mixed Material Top $58
and jeans again :)
I am undecided on this top. Although I love the print, I worry it's too short. I gotta think about this one.
Verdict- undecided.

I loved this fix. My stylist, Tovah, knows me well. I am especially excited for the jeans and dress.  This was a good start to my weekend! Whst do you think?

New (to me) couch

Today was the first day of school. More about that later. I'm exhausted.

I got a new (to me) couch for my class. I added these pillows my mom sewed and then painted READ on top. Love it.
I still want to add something else. Not sure what yet.
Have a great week!

Writer's Notebooks

Every year I make these fun notebooks. I took the idea from a coworker some time back and modified it slightly. I love the end result, but they are super time consuming to make and pretty expensive because of the fabric.

I have been asked how to make them from several people over the years, so here it goes.

Materials
Composition books
Fabric
Spray adhesive
Tacky glue
Thin black ribbon
Colored cardstock
Duct tape

Buy composition books. Make sure they aren't the ones with the flimsy covers.  I got these for 50 cents each at Staples, but I try to get them cheaper at Target after the school year has started.

Then, you need fabric. A quarter yard makes two notebooks. But, you have to watch the way the fabric faces. Sometimes you need a third of a yard or it looks sideways in the end. I don't like any of my students to have the same fabric on their notebooks, so it takes a lot of different fabric. Luckily, my mom and I split out fabric every year :). I also make a lot of extras so the students have a lot of choice and don't feel stuck with a design.
Quarter yard fabric

Cut your quarter yard of fabric in half.
Then, use spray adhesive to adhere the fabric to the front and back of the notebook.

Make sure not to cover the spine of the composition book. Duct tape will go here. It should hang over on all sides except the spine.
Open up the book and use tacky glue to glue the fabric to the inside of the notebooks.
Use colored cardstock that coordinates with the fabric. Cut to size to cover the inside of the book.

Then, cut thin black ribbon to size to be used as a bookmark.
Choose duct tape to coordinate with the fabric.
Cut duct tape to the size of the book. Put your cut piece on the spine of the book covering only one side of the book. Put the ribbon on the other side so it sticks.
Fold duct tape in and put the book mark inside the book.
And that's all :). Repeat, until you have all you need.
For students, I typically add a label on the inside that says their name.
Here are my books from last year :)

Hope that was easy to follow. If not, let me know.
